Active Ingredient: Capecitabine
Uses:
- Metastatic breast cancer
- Metastatic colorectal cancer
How it Works:
Capecitabine is a prodrug that is converted to an active form, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), in the body. 5-FU interferes with the growth and replication of cancer cells.
Important Considerations:
- Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and hand-foot syndrome (pain, swelling, and redness of the palms and soles).
- Drug Interactions: Capecitabine can interact with other medications, so it’s important to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Capecitabine can harm a developing fetus. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid handling crushed or broken Xeloda tablets.
- Monitoring: Regular blood tests may be needed to monitor for side effects and to adjust the dosage as needed.
Note: Always follow the instructions on the product label or consult a healthcare professional for specific advice. Xeloda is a prescription medication and should only be used under the supervision of a doctor.
